Week 1 - July 24th, 2026 - Preschool

Hello, Preschool families!

Morning & Afternoon Meeting

Each day, we started with our morning meeting, where we talked about the date, weather, and classroom jobs before singing our morning song and dancing to fun space and summer-themed music. At the end of each day, we gathered together for story time to read space-themed books before singing our goodbye song to finish another exciting day of our Mission to Space adventure.

Language & Literacy

This week, we learned the first set of Jolly Phonics sounds: s, a, t, i, p, and n. The children practiced letter recognition, blending, and initial sounds through a variety of hands-on activities. They enjoyed letter recognition games, blending and initial sound activities on Jolly Classroom, playdough letter formation, cutting practice with plastic scissors, the Letter Rescue game, an initial sound sorting game, and phonics review games.

Summer Activities

Throughout the week, the children explored the wonders of outer space. We began by learning about the solar system and creating comet balls before making colorful fizzing galaxies through a fun science experiment. We then learned about rockets and space travel by watching a real rocket launch, carrying out a balloon rocket experiment, and making straw rockets. As the week continued, we explored the eight planets in our solar system while creating Solar System models inside magnetic display cases and painting the planets by rolling beads through paint. To finish the week, we learned that space is filled with many amazing things, including stars, planets, and black holes, before creating space lanterns decorated with LED lights and sequins. We also visited the big room to observe a baking soda rocket launch.
